Citra Emulator can interface with many different games thanks to the extensive compatibility it has with multiple games. All you need to do is download your favorite games and place them in specific folders. From there on, Citra Emulator can browse those folders and integrate the game into its functionality. Whenever you start a new game, the app automatically adds it to your list of selected games. After choosing games, the app inserts them into an emulator.

You can change the default speed limit of Citra Emulator by accessing its general settings. You can choose between a high or low speed limit percentage. Choosing the default speed percentage of 100% will keep emulation at normal speeds. You can choose higher values for these settings to increase the emulation speed or choose lower values to decrease it. Most people should choose the default value of 100% to keep playing stable.

Emulated regions, languages and clock types are possible on Citra Emulator. The camera can be adjusted in many ways, including the position of the inner and outer cameras and which side the outer left or right camera is on. Users with the 8bitdo sn30 console can connect it to the gamepad mode. You can adjust audio and graphics settings to your specifications. This allows you to increase the resolution and display two views simultaneously. Additionally, you can set up debugging software as well as additional showcases.

Add new games to the list by simply choosing the one you want from the list. Once you do, an additional emulator shortcut area appears. Use those keys to control the game once it's added to the list. There are additional options available in the right corner of the screen. These include the ability to toggle between landscape and portrait modes, view the current frames per second, load or save a game state, or change the screen’s layout. It even features an HD graphical interface with a full screen view. It allows you to easily customize the controls by adding new ones in a short amount of time. That's why Citra is a resource for gamers who need help accessing older consoles. A significant portion of the 170+ developers that have contributed to this project are currently working on the project for free. They spend a significant amount of time writing programs for the emulator and testing the game. Additionally, they call on their community to join hands and report any bugs in order to improve the project. The emulator was first developed in April of 2014. It was initially used to run The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Animal Crossing: New Leaf or Sonic Generation. In December 2015, the emulator was able to run Pokemon games and series like Sun and Moon. It's been possible to play all Nintendo 3DS games on the Citra emulator, with very few exceptions. However, the emulator can currently only be used on Windows, macOS and Linux computers. Their original goal was nearly achieved when it became possible to run almost all Nintendo 3DS games on the emulator starting in 2020.

Before Citra, 3DS games required owning a Gameboy and purchasing games to play. However, since Citra was created, playing 3DS games doesn't require purchasing additional games. Almost all current 3DS games are compatible with Citra. By downloading games through emulators powered by Citra, you can play 3DS games for free. To do this, simply visit websites that provide ROMs for the emulators and then use the Citra emulator to open the games. This means you can access free games through Citra. However, this comes at a cost because game developers make money off of sales of their products. Consequently, if you have enough money, buying games supports the publisher and helps them make more money. This is because Citra is optimized for phones.
