They fight against evil to rule the Earth. A new enemy appears; one that presents terrible destruction. A war of unparalleled brutality and strangeness ensues between an alliance of incompatible races and an entity that exists without a connection to the world. All races must band together to stop this impending threat— or the world will meet its end. The three races end their centuries-long rivalry when they fight over world supremacy in the last stage of their conflict.

A few previous RPG games share the same drawbacks as Heroes of the Dark; it's the rare turn-based combat RPG that stands apart. In order to defeat outside forces of evil, you must construct an unusual and powerful army. To accomplish this, continually improve the combat effectiveness of each soldier. Lycanthropes employ violence as a means of solving problems; they battle for control after the wolf king is eliminated. Even though they cooperate, vampires are very cautious and self-confident. They want to find modern technology to create an independent world and are always trying to do good for themselves.
