While protecting Asuna, Kirito was injected with a paralyzing agent by Johnny Black, who was a member of the Laughing Coffin guild. Because of this, Kirito fell into a coma and had to be treated by connecting to the virtual world's STL. In order to save his childhood friend Alice who was removed from the group for breaking a rule, Kirito and Eugeo joined forces as knights. However, Kirito also hoped to save the artificial intelligence in STL from destruction.

In Sout High Sword, players must choose moves for each character during each turn. Additionally, they must devise a strategy to defeat the enemy — a turn-based play style called SAO Unleash Blading. In addition to being a typical turn-based game with a strategy focus, it also features an action-alternating element. When you choose a move for your character, the resulting animation won't be as simple as other games. Instead, it will transition into 3D animation with stunning effects. You must create a sub-team before starting combat. Creating a team consists of creating a main team and sub-team. A subteam only has two positions; don’t overlook the unique abilities and skills of the main team. Every character on the team has special abilities and skills that make them valuable members of the squad.
