A cardboard homeless man named Bum Bo lived happily in a box behind a house on the hill. One day, a coin fell down a manhole and changed Bum Bo's life forever. He ended up having an adventure down in the sewers that was both terrifying and disappointing. Noticing he was low on cash, he leapt to look for his coin. But no one suspected that hundreds of monsters, bosses and deranged folks were lying in wait for him.

When you first start playing The Legend of Bum-Bo, you think the graphics look like a children's hand-drawn picture. The game's main theme is a scary and dark cardboard sandbox. You don't know what enemy you'll face inside the dark until you play the game further. Cards in the game can be used to create monsters, which are made up of watery material. Characters can even be seen moving thanks to a stick that’s affixed to them. The game focuses on monster creatures and bones found in outer space. Its cartoon style makes these scary and disgusting images less noticeable. Because of gore, drugs and violent pictures, the game requires age 17 or older to play.

To beat hundreds of bosses, monsters, orphaned kids and insane people, players must solve the game's puzzles. This is similar to match 3 games but not exactly the same. A line of teeth and bones provides protection from attacks, facilitates combat and movement through the line. Fluid or poop in the line accelerates movement, while bones provide offense. You start the game with three hearts and three lives. Each time you pass a hallway, you must face one attack from a monster and lose a half-heart to continue playing. After two turns, you must face an attack with no matching cards to finish the game. If you run out of hearts, the game ends and you must return to the first dungeon. By destroying all the monsters in your way and matching four heart symbols, you earn additional hearts. This allows you to continue your journey for longer. Once you pass through the door into Bum Bos coin, you have earned one more step towards your goal.

By completing dungeon adventures, you earn coins. Use these coins to unlock new outfits for the bum-bo characters like Bum-Bo the Brave, Bum-Bo the Nimble, Bum-Bo the Stout, Bum-Bo the Weird, and more. Each character has special abilities and magic in addition to regular skills. Bum-Bo the Stout can withstand magic damage and push the first enemy back a row. Bum-Bo the Nimble can withstand magic damage to any enemy and increase damage per turn.

Each heart contains half a turn, so four turns pass before you must confront one monster attack and lose that half of your heart. At that point, you have only two hearts to contend with. By matching 4 heart symbols, you earn additional hearts for your journey. This helps to stretch out your progress. When you clear the path ahead of you, you have the opportunity to unlock the door toward Bum Bo's coin.

EachBum-Bo character has special skills, abilities and magic. You earn coins while on an adventure in a dungeon. Use the coins to unlock special Bum-Bo outfits like Bum-Bo the Brave, Bum-Bo the Nimble, Bum-Bo the Stout, Bum-Bo the Weird, and more. Each character can wear different outfits by using these coins.he first enemy and knocking them back a row. Bum-Bo the Nimble can also deal with magic damage to any enemy, and increase its damage per turn.

When Bum-bo's only coin is stolen by a mysterious entity and pulled down into the sewer, Bum-bo finds himself facing droves of deranged enemies, lost children, his fears, and eventually the beast that stole his beloved coin.
